While visiting the south, and living in North Carolina, I definitely learned some of these values. I’d say food is the biggest! I have never found such unique, delicious food. I live in Arizona now, and it’s still kinda southern. But I miss the real south.

  2. I’m from the north, and only visited Florida a couple of times. I love reading about Southern style, it makes me want to move there!

  3. That dog picture is just the sweetest! 🙂 Just like Southern hospitality. Hah. I live in the midwest and there so many similarities in the local personalities. You can’t beat it! The style is pretty good, too!

  4. More southern values could be literature, authors such as Twain, Poe, William Faulkner.

  5. These are definitely six great things about the south. Although I am not really a big boot fan but those do look cool. I am always in the mood for southern BBQ. And I really do think it would be nicer if people were friendlier to each other in general. I wonder if its a function of the south being less compact than some of the other north eastern cities. Who knows? And faith in God is always a good thing.

So man of my coworkers live in Charlotte, North Carolina. Everything you mentioned in your post comes shining through every time we get together. Probably Southern Hospitality most of all. They are some of the kindest people you could ever hope to meet. That and southern cooking. My goodness, the things they make are incredible!

  7. Hospitality and Faith are two qualities I always have maintained! Even though I’m not from the south 🙂

God and family are very big for us. Love and kindness come from those. We do like our barbecue and burgers.

  9. Oh man, I’ve been to the South and football is definitely a value!

I’m a southern girl at heart, spent most of my life in NC and SC. I’m half japanese so when my southern accent comes out, I confuse people, lol. Have you read Celia Riverbark I think is her name, she has funny books about the South I just adore!

  11. Most of these are good values anywhere. (maybe not the cowboy boots).

  12. Love the boots! We’re from the North but my daughter has several pairs of cowboy boots & wears them everyday. 🙂

I love being from the South, definitely the hospitality!!

  14. Can someone help me understand “family” as Southerners do? I’ve known women who say they come from “family” and that is somehow very very important. Some have money, some do not but they had oneyonce. But they value “family” …… I’ve a Northern girl through and through 🙂 thanks
