If you’re anything like me and miss those warm, comforting cuddles, a boyfriend pillow might just be the perfect solution! Whether you’re single, your partner travels a lot, or you just want something cozy to snuggle up with, this DIY boyfriend pillow is super easy to make — and totally worth it. (Also, for the record, I’m not crazy — they even had a boyfriend pillow featured on Glee in Season 4, Episode 17!)
I took a quick trip to Walmart to grab most of the supplies for this fun project, but you probably already have a few of these items at home. Let’s dive in!
Boyfriend Pillow Supplies:
1 memory foam pillow (standard size)
1 flannel long sleeve shirt (the bigger, the better for ultimate coziness)
Small sewing kit (or fabric tape for a no-sew option)
Instructions to Make Your Own Boyfriend Pillow:
- Choose Your Flannel Shirt: I used a 3XL flannel shirt that had been sitting in my closet — super soft and perfect for cuddling.
- Get Sewing (or Taping): Using your sewing kit, stitch the bottom of the shirt closed, along with one arm sleeve and the collar area. If you prefer a no-sew version, you can use fabric tape to seal these parts.
- Add the Pillow and Stuffing: On the side where you left the arm sleeve open, insert your memory foam pillow into the chest area of the shirt. Stuff the other side (and the “cuddling arm”) with fiberfill stuffing. Make sure not to overstuff — you want the arm to be flexible and easy to snuggle.
- Finishing Touches: You can choose to sew the shirt buttons closed or leave them open for a more relaxed look. A quick tip: tuck the unused sleeve inside the shirt, and if needed, use it for extra stuffing!
- Final Step: Give your new boyfriend pillow a light spritz of your favorite men’s cologne for the ultimate cozy experience. It’ll feel just like snuggling up to someone special!

Extra Tips:
- Pick a super soft, worn-in flannel shirt for maximum comfort.
- Want even more realism? Slip a small heating pad inside (on low setting) to make it feel extra warm.
- Customize your boyfriend pillow by adding a hoodie or a scent that reminds you of good memories.
Now you have a cozy cuddle buddy ready for movie nights, naps, or just a little extra comfort when you need it. Trust me — you’re going to love your DIY boyfriend pillow!

How cute!! I just saw a bunch of flannel shirts on sale at our local farm supply store. I may have to make an excuse to make another trip and grab a few to make one (or more). What a lovely idea!

Interesting. good idea for recycling an old shirt, especially if you don’t want to live with anyone. Like I do, I like living alone but sleep better when the need to cuddle is met.

Sounds really cozy indeed, nice diy for valentines too

This is so COOL!!!!!!!!!! I’d have to do it longer maybe the pj pants attached so I could sleep on my side (I sleep with a leg hooked)… Maybe just 1 leg filled would be enough… Hmmm. I usually use a body pillow but this would hug back… Hmmm!!

What a great way to repurpose a cozy flannel shirt! It would be great to take on a road trip, too. You could prop up books and snacks on it.
